Is Actifio IBM's next big data acquisition?

Actifio just got a little tighter with IBM Corp.  The Waltham, Mass. big data storage startup on Monday announced a partnership with IBM to bundle the companies’ storage products together in a new offering.

The new offering, designed to work with IBM storage systems, will be sold to service providers and value-added resellers. The two companies are aiming at about 4,400 IT service providers worldwide, who might use the new offering in services like cloud-based data backup. Actifio provides data storage virtualization.

The IBM partnership follows closely on the hire of an IBM veteran, Jim Sullivan, last October. Actifio hired him as vice president of worldwide sales, and swiftly promoted him to president.
